A snippet from Scherzo, the Eighth Doctor audio play by Big Finish. My favorite part, and the most gut wrenching audio I've heard. Everything belongs to the BBC and Big Finish, I don't own anything and am not trying to make any money. Just thought people might want a listen.

Scherzo is an episode where it has to be done on audio. Charley and the Doctor are in a whole new universe. The Divergent Universe to be precise. And the first place they land is a place where they cannot use any of their senses except for hearing. They can’t feel each other holding each other’s hands. They can’t see anything, they just keep walking and walking. That might sound boring, and it probably would be except for the char driven plot. It’s impossible for you not to get emotional about things like this. The Doctor is ruthless in this audio, and so heartbreaking. They both are.

I was thinking, upon my second listen through of The Chimes of Midnight that it’s probably the best audio story I’ve ever heard. A lot of the time stories are kind of crap, let’s face it. Some fun parts, but generally they can be a bit lacking on trying to keep you guessing and things like that. But this plot has so many twists and turns and is so kind of mixed up with stuff that it’s really fantastic. I know lots of people like to complain that lately people who write the show put too much in it and don’t worry about things like character development. But this is like this miraculous balance of the two.

The story in a nutshell: The Doctor and Charley land in 1906 and are stuck in a house. The house staff keeps dying at the chime of the hour, every hour in gruesome ways. The Doctor and Charley get to play detective, and figure out who done it. Plus figure out the mysterious sentence of: Edward Grove is alive.

It’s set during Christmas, but it’s like a dark and twisted kind of Christmas. Listening to it the first time, I was just as confused as the Doctor and Charley, and they do a good job of keeping you just as informed as the two of them. This is a who-dun-it twist that’s really kind of amazing. And once again, the Doctor shows just how much he cares not just for Charley, but for every person in that household. But we also see this kind of beginning to a Doctor who is ruthless, a side that probably hasn’t been seen in a while.

I'm looking for someone to play the Eighth Doctor somewhere for me. With some Eight/Charley stuff.

I need to find my Dark Tower icons. But anyway, look an actual entry from me.

It's because of this announcement. Yeah that's right, they're making the The Dark Tower into some movies and then a film series. Most people know this, but that series of books are my favorite books of all time. They've always been my favorite, and they always will be. I even have a Dark Tower tattoo, and if I had more room on my skinny little body, I'd put the gunslinger's creed (I do not kill with my heart.. etc) on my back or something.

Okay so I have the graphic novels, of course I do. I really love them. I think everyone's drawn pretty much the way I imagined for the most part, and things are done the right way (with a few minor exceptions that I can't be arsed to care about) but all in all they're doing a good job.

But movies and a tv show? I almost wish they wouldn't. Because that's seven fucking books, and so much shit to cover and I know that means half of it is going to get tossed out, you know? And that bugs me. I'm actually not a purist of a lot of things. I can deal with books being turned into movies and having them butcher it up. No problem. Depends on how much I love the book. But I love these books. And I just.. yeah.

I can see them turning The Gunslinger into one movie, that's possible. And I can see them turning Wizard and Glass into a movie, it's just all that stuff in between. The Drawing of the Three, and the Wolves of Calla. I'm one of those people who actually adored the ending of the book. I won't give it away, but I think it fit perfectly, and I was very nearly almost expecting it. It's very true to Roland, despite what other people say. I think my main problem is that I have always just wracked my brain trying to think of a good Roland, and I've never found anyone to come close. Yeah yeah, Clint Eastwood, maybe if he was back in his Dirty Harry days, but Roland isn't that old. In fact, Clint could probably pull off Father Callahan actually. And I can think of my perfect cast for pretty much everyone else. But Roland is such a hard character to pull off. I've just never thought anyone had the chops to do it.

The other thing is just how they're going to do some parts. There are parts in there that are just so.. weird, I'm not sure how they're going to put them on screen and make people understand. Not without a lot of exposition, you know? Anyway, it's being done by Ron Howard. I.. guess I'm okay with that? He'd better read all of the damn books, backwards and forwards, that's all I have to say about that.

What I adore is that Frank Darabont is doing the final film. That gives me incredible hope because if anyone can do it, he can. I know, I know. He changed the ending of the Mist. Actually I think it made it better. But whatever. I mean depressing as fuck, but maybe better. Anyway. He's the only one that has done many King movies and hasn't completely fucked it up. I've adored all of his adaptations, so I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway, either way? I will be completely glued to the movies and the television show, even if it's horrible because come on. I'm a Tower junkie.
